Once the steam-powered computing engine was invented, it was only a matter of time before someone tried to connect the engines over telegraph. The resulting network ushered in a new era of connectivity, brought the far corners of the world closer and allowed for the transmission of information in ways that had never before been possible. For the first time, people could communicate almost instantaneously with others who were far away, as if their words were magically transported through the Aether. Thus the system became known as the Aether Network, or Aethernet.
The invention of the Aethernet changed to course of world history and sped up progress to a dizzying – some would say alarming – pace.
