In Fourth Wall Studios latest RIDE Claire, Nicole Hayden plays Claire, an unlikely superhero who uses telepathy (the ability to read minds) to fight crime. To celebrate Claire special gift, we've highlighted some of the great moments in telepathy (and to a lesser extent other mental abilities) history. Enjoy!

1882: The Society for Psychical Research is founded in London to, according to their website, investigate "psychic" or "paranormal" by supporting research, sharing information and encouraging debate. Co-founder Fredric Myers coins the term Telepathy. The society still exists today.



1953: The short story It's a Good Life written by Jerome Bixby is published by Ballantine Books. The story centers around three-year old Anthony Fremont who has near godlike powers, including telepathy, which the townspeople to think nice thoughts. The story was adapted for the The Twilight Zone in the 1960's. It was considered one of the best episodes of all-time.
1960: A brick wall... a brick wall... the movie Village of the Damned is released... a brick wall... the story is about a group of muntant children... a brick wall... brick wall... I must think of a brick wall... who possess telepathy among other powers... brick wall... one of their parents is forced to kill the children... brick wall... brick wall... brick wall... with the help of, you guessed it.. a brick wall...

1977: Star Wars:Episode IV - A New Hope
Stormtrooper: Let me see your identification.
Obi-Wan: [with a small wave of his hand] You don't need to see his identification.
Stormtrooper: We don't need to see his identification.
Obi-Wan: These aren't the droids you're looking for.
Stormtrooper: These aren't the droids we're looking for.
Obi-Wan: He can go about his business.
Stormtrooper: You can go about your business.
Obi-Wan: Move along.
Stormtrooper: Move along... move along.

Not technically telepathy but still ... CLASSIC!
1984: Ghostbusters: In one of the opening scene sof the 1984 movie Ghostbusters, Dr. Peter Venkman (Bill Murray) uses Zener cards to test a pair of students to see if they have ESP, a form of telepathy. Besides being hilarious, it also demonstrates a very important fact; pretty blonde women have the upper hand on white guys with afros when it comes to paranormal testing.

2004: The Men Who Stare at Goats, a book by Jon Ronson is published. The book explores the U.S. miltary's research into the application of the paranormal, including telepathy. The title reference attempts to kill goats with the power of their minds. The book has been adapted into a television documentary and feature film.
2006: The band Telepathe (pronounced Telepathy) releases its first EP Farewell Forest. The band went on to release three more albums and their latest singles Throw Away / Destroyed in 2011.

2012: The time I wrote this entire post using only the power of my mind!
